Complete and manage your application online through the external Planning Portal.
How to apply directly to Build Insight
- Download the Build Insight application form and save it to your device.
- Open the saved form using a PDF editor and complete all relevant sections.
- Save the completed form using a clear filename that includes your name or project address.
- Email the completed form to technical@build-insight.co.uk.
Please submit the relevant detailed drawings, specifications and, where required, structural design calculations with your application. We will review the information and contact you if amendments or further details are needed.
About the Planning Portal
The Planning Portal is a national service for submitting planning and building control applications online. Its features include:
- Creating and saving applications in draft before submission.
- Immediate delivery and acknowledgement of submitted applications.
- Online guidance when completing an application.
- An online record of completed applications.
- A single sign-on for planning and building control services.
- The ability to reuse relevant information from planning applications.
- Online payment facilities.
Fees
Build Insight’s fees are tailored to the requirements of each project. To request a quotation, email technical@build-insight.co.uk or complete our quotation form.
If you apply through the Planning Portal, its separate service fee may also apply.
Project notifications and compliance forms
If you already have a building control project with Build Insight, you may need to submit notices and declarations at key stages—before work starts, when work commences, when dutyholders are appointed or changed, and when the work is complete.
The Building Safety Act guide – by BESA
If you commission building work, you are considered “the client” under the Building Safety Act. This role carries clear legal duties, and responsibility cannot be transferred to another party.
BESA developed this guide with support from industry partners to provide clients with clear, practical information that can be applied to real projects.

Complaints procedure
If something goes wrong, we want the opportunity to put it right.
In the first instance, please contact our team at technical@build-insight.co.uk or call 03452 185214. We will try to resolve the matter informally with you.
If the matter cannot be resolved informally, your complaint will be passed to the relevant Head of Department for review and further action where necessary.
