Registered Building Inspector, RBI Class 2/3

Build Insight is a Registered Building Control Approver, approved by the Building Safety Regulator to deliver building control services. As part of the Broste Rivers Group, we work on everything from small domestic extensions to major commercial developments, always with a focus on safety, compliance and customer value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties of the post include, but are not limited to:
· Work collaboratively with clients, the design team and contractors, at key stages of the process, ensuring satisfactory compliance oversight in line with relevant legislation.
· Carry out inspections in line with Build Insight’s risk-based inspection regime on building projects within your class of competence (Class 2/3), ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
· Provide professional communication with stakeholders.
· Assess and process building control applications.
· Support local authorities with their regularisation and reversion processes of projects when required
· Produce accurate, detailed inspection records and maintain digital records in line with QA systems and in accordance with the Code of Conduct for RBIs.
· Ensure relevant statutory periods are observed and take action as required.
· Issue plan certificates as requested and issue final certificates as appropriate
· Investigate and resolve breaches of the Building Regulations, working collaboratively with local authorities.
· Keep up to date with changes in legislation, construction practices, and regulatory guidance.
· Attend site visits across the agreed service area, sometimes at short notice and in all weather conditions.
· Participate in internal training, peer reviews, and continuing professional development (CPD) activities.
· Ability to work at height and climb ladders.
· Take active responsibility for your own safety and apply a reasonable awareness of others on sites.
· Contribute to the continuous improvement of our service.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria:
· A chartered professional membership with RICS, CIOB or CABE.
· Registered as a Class 2 or Class 3 Building Inspector with the BSR.
· Level 4 or 5 qualification in Building Control, Construction, or related discipline.
· Solid industry experience and the ability to make pragmatic decisions.
· Demonstrate a customer-focused approach
· High standard of written and verbal communication skills
· Experienced in interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Proficient use of IT systems and development of systems to improve efficiencies and effectiveness
· Ability to use BlueBeam software
· An in-depth understanding of relevant legislation, guidance and associated documentation
· Full UK driving licence (for site visits).
Desirable Criteria:
· Experience working with Building Control bodies (public or private).
· Experience handling enforcement actions or compliance issues.
· Knowledge of working with CRM systems

This post is 100% remote, so we welcome applicants from all over the UK – though our office in Hertfordshire will always be open and welcoming. You may be required to visit Hertfordshire once or twice per year.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties of the post include, but are not limited to:
- Remote Plan Checker will be responsible for assessing plans to ensure they comply with the Building Regulations and associated guidance for residential and commercial developments.
- All plans will be allocated via our online application system. The Remote Plan Checker will be responsible for full checking of the plans, responding to applicants, principal designers and contractors, assessing amended details and clearing of conditions through to decision within the statutory deadlines.
- Customer retention and market development
- To maintain an awareness of competitors, construction developments, government business initiatives, current and proposed legislation in relation to commercial activities
- To contribute to and support the development and implementation of professional services, including service improvement, customer satisfaction, public relations, marketing, performance management and other business initiatives
- To focus on striving for excellence by driving out unnecessary waste through continuous process improvement
- To contribute to ensuring that all commercial activities meet or improve on budget, cost and efficiency targets in line with business objectives
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria:
- Full Member of RICS, CIOB or CABE, or meet the criteria set out by CABE for the mature entry route
- Proven practical experience in Building Control that includes commercial and industrial work and enforcement of Building Regulations
- Experience in working in Approved Inspectors
- Experience in large residential or commercial development work
- Experience in working under BS EN ISO 9001 quality accreditation
- Effective communication in relation to staff, meetings with developers and their agents, events with the public, stakeholders and government officials
- Competent in the application of Building Regulations and associated legislation, including court action and enforcement action
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
