That’s why we’re emphasising the importance of the ‘Connectivity Plan,’ a requirement introduced by Approved Document R1 (Infrastructure for Electronic Communications for new dwellings) in England and Wales on December 26, 2022. This Approved Document, provides guidance on how to comply with the requirement to install gigabit-ready physical infrastructure and a connection to a gigabit-capable public electronic communications network when new homes are constructed or created through a change of use.
If your project involves the construction of a new dwelling or a building containing one or more dwellings, a ‘Connectivity Plan’ is now a mandatory submission with your application. This plan is essential for demonstrating compliance with Regulation RA2 and Approved Document R1.
As a Building Control provider, we want to highlight that, even after more than 10 months since the implementation of this requirement, some applications still face challenges regarding the ‘Connectivity Plan.’ To streamline this process, we strongly recommend early engagement with the proposed network provider. Consider reaching out to them during the planning stage to ensure that the ‘Connectivity Plan’ is obtained before moving on to the Building Regulation working drawings.
